Somalia Physical Map

Description:
This map shows landforms in Somalia.

Somalia is located in the Horn of Africa, bordering Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, and Kenya to the southwest. The country has the longest coastline on mainland Africa, stretching 3,025 kilometers (1,880 miles) along the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

The northern region of Somalia features the Cal Madow mountain range, with the country's highest point, Shimbiris, reaching 2,460 meters (8,071 feet). The Ogo Mountains run parallel to the northern coast, gradually descending to the central plains known as the Haud.

The central and southern regions consist primarily of flat plains and plateaus. Two permanent rivers flow through Somalia: the Jubba and Shabelle, both originating in the Ethiopian highlands. These rivers support the country's most fertile agricultural regions in the south.

The climate varies from arid in the northeastern and central regions to semi-arid in the northwest and south. Most of the country consists of savanna plains, with desert conditions in the north. The landscape includes scattered salt lakes, sand dunes, and acacia woodlands.
