Slovakia is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. It shares borders with five countries: Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the southwest, and the Czech Republic to the northwest.

The country's geographical coordinates are approximately 48°40'N 19°30'E. Slovakia's territory covers an area of 18,932 square miles (49,035 square kilometers), making it one of the smaller European nations. The capital and largest city, Bratislava, is situated in the southwestern part of the country along the Danube River.

The nation's strategic position in the heart of Europe has historically made it an important crossroads for trade and cultural exchange. Slovakia lies within the Carpathian Mountain system, with the High Tatras forming a natural border with Poland. The Danube River, Europe's second-longest river, forms part of Slovakia's southern border with Hungary.
