Sierra Leone is divided into four provinces: Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western, plus one additional area designated as the Western Area that includes the capital city of Freetown. These regions are further subdivided into 16 districts.

The Northern Region is the largest and contains five districts: Bombali, Falaba, Koinadugu, Tonkolili, and Karene. The Eastern Region comprises three districts: Kailahun, Kenema, and Kono. The Southern Region consists of four districts: Bo, Bonthe, Moyamba, and Pujehun. The Western Area is divided into two districts: Western Area Rural and Western Area Urban (Freetown).

Sierra Leone shares international borders with two countries: Guinea to the north and east, and Liberia to the southeast. The Atlantic Ocean forms its western boundary, with approximately 400 kilometers of coastline. The country's total land area is 71,740 square kilometers (27,699 square miles).

Freetown, located in the Western Area, serves as the nation's capital and largest city, functioning as the political, economic, and financial center of the country. Other major urban centers include Bo, which is the second-largest city and located in the Southern Region, Kenema in the Eastern Region, and Makeni in the Northern Region.
