About Rwanda

Rwanda is a landlocked country in East Africa, located in the Great Lakes region. It borders Uganda to the north, Tanzania to the east, Burundi to the south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. The country encompasses 10,169 square miles (26,338 square kilometers).

Rwanda's capital and largest city, Kigali, serves as the country's economic and cultural center. The city houses approximately 1.2 million residents. Other significant urban areas include Butare, Gitarama, and Ruhengeri. The total population of Rwanda reaches 13.6 million people (2024 estimate), making it one of Africa's most densely populated countries.

The economy relies primarily on agriculture and services. Coffee and tea constitute the main export crops. Rwanda has experienced substantial economic growth since the 1994 genocide, with the government focusing on modernization and technological development. The country has emerged as a significant player in East African information technology sectors.

Tourism represents a growing sector of Rwanda's economy. The country's main attractions include Volcanoes National Park, home to mountain gorillas, and Nyungwe National Park, which contains extensive wildlife and primate populations. The Akagera National Park offers traditional safari experiences with lions, elephants, and various antelope species.

Rwanda features a predominantly mountainous landscape with elevations ranging from 3,600 to 14,800 feet (1,100 to 4,500 meters). The climate remains temperate year-round due to the high elevation, with average temperatures between 20-21°C (68-70°F). The country experiences two rainy seasons from February to April and November to January.

The official languages include Kinyarwanda, English, French, and Swahili. Rwanda maintains a stable government system and has implemented various economic reforms, positioning itself as a hub for business and investment in East Africa.
