Russia's physical map reveals the largest country in the world, spanning across 11 time zones and covering an area of approximately 17.1 million square kilometers. The country extends from Eastern Europe to the Pacific Ocean, encompassing diverse geographical features and landscapes.
The western part of Russia consists mainly of the East European Plain, which includes the Volga River system. The country's eastern boundary is marked by the Ural Mountains, running north-south for about 2,500 kilometers. Major mountain ranges include the Caucasus Mountains in the south, with Mount Elbrus being the highest peak in Europe at 5,642 meters, the Altai Mountains in southern Siberia, and the Verkhoyansk Range in northeastern Siberia.
Siberia dominates the central and eastern regions, characterized by vast plains, taiga forests, and tundra. The West Siberian Plain is one of the largest lowlands in the world. Lake Baikal, located in southern Siberia, is the deepest freshwater lake globally and contains about 20% of the world's unfrozen freshwater.
The northern coast of Russia borders the Arctic Ocean, featuring numerous islands and archipelagos, including Novaya Zemlya and the New Siberian Islands. The Kamchatka Peninsula in the far east is known for its volcanic activity and contains approximately 160 volcanoes, with 29 still active.
