Russky Island (Russian: Остров Русский) is a large island in the Peter the Great Gulf, situated off the coast of Vladivostok, Russia. With an area of approximately 97.6 square kilometers (37.7 sq mi), it's the largest island in the Eugénie Archipelago.

Historically, the island served as a significant military outpost since the late 19th century. During the Soviet era, it hosted numerous military installations and was closed to civilians until 1992. The island's military heritage is reflected in its various fortifications, including the Voroshilov Battery, which was built in the 1930s and now serves as a museum.

The island underwent major development in preparation for the 2012 APEC Summit. The most notable addition was the construction of the Russky Bridge, which connects the island to mainland Vladivostok. At the time of its completion, it was the world's longest cable-stayed bridge, with a central span of 1,104 meters. The bridge has become an iconic symbol of modern Vladivostok and significantly improved accessibility to the island.

Today, Russky Island is home to the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) campus, which opened in 2013. The university complex includes modern educational facilities, research centers, and student accommodations. The campus hosted the 2012 APEC Summit and continues to serve as a venue for major international events.

The island features diverse natural landscapes, including rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, and forested areas. Popular recreational spots include Akhlestysheva Beach and Novik Bay. The island's waters are known for their rich marine life, making it a destination for diving enthusiasts. Several hiking trails offer visitors opportunities to explore the island's natural beauty and historical fortifications.

Recent developments include new residential areas, hotels, and infrastructure projects aimed at promoting tourism and improving living conditions for the island's growing population. Despite these modern developments, large portions of the island remain undeveloped, preserving its natural environment and military historical sites.
