Cities of Réunion

Réunion, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, has several significant urban centers. Saint-Denis, the capital and largest city, serves as the administrative and economic hub with approximately 153,000 inhabitants. Located on the island's northern coast, it hosts the main government offices and the University of La Réunion.

Saint-Paul, the second-largest city, is historically significant as the first permanent settlement on the island. Saint-Pierre, situated in the south, is an important commercial center and features a notable waterfront area. Le Port, as its name suggests, is the island's main seaport city.

Other notable cities include Saint-Louis, Le Tampon, and Saint-André, each serving as regional centers for their respective areas. These urban areas are connected by a road network that circles the island, known as the Route Nationale 1 and 2. Most cities are located along the coastal areas, as the island's interior is dominated by mountainous terrain and the active Piton de la Fournaise volcano.
