About Oeno Island

Oeno Island is a small coral atoll located 143 kilometers northwest of Pitcairn Island. The island has a total area of about 20 square kilometers (7.7 square miles) and consists of a central low-lying island surrounded by a shallow lagoon and coral reef.

The island serves as a holiday site for the Pitcairn Islanders, who occasionally visit during summer months. It is an important breeding ground for several species of seabirds, including the Murphy's petrel. The island was discovered in 1819 by Captain James Henderson of the British merchant ship Hercules and named after his ship's owner.
