About Ngerulmud

Ngerulmud is the capital city of Palau, located in the state of Melekeok on the island of Babeldaob. The centerpiece of Ngerulmud is the Capitol Complex, a modern governmental facility that houses the country's executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The complex, completed in 2006 at a cost of $45 million, was funded primarily through grants from the United States as part of the Compact of Free Association. The architectural design of the complex notably combines modern elements with traditional Palauan motifs, featuring a distinctive symmetrical layout and prominent white facade.

Transportation to Ngerulmud is facilitated by the Babeldaob Island's compact road system, with the Roman Tmetuchl International Airport located approximately 23 miles away. The city is connected to other parts of Babeldaob via the Japan-Palau Friendship Bridge, which spans the Babeldaob Strait.

The climate in Ngerulmud is tropical, characterized by high humidity and consistent temperatures throughout the year, typically ranging from 75°F to 90°F (24°C to 32°C). The region experiences significant rainfall, particularly during the monsoon season from July to October. The surrounding area features lush tropical vegetation and is home to various endemic species of plants and animals.

Despite its status as the capital, Ngerulmud remains primarily an administrative center, with most commercial activities and tourism facilities concentrated in nearby Koror. The city's development continues to expand gradually, with plans for additional government facilities and infrastructure improvements. The surrounding state of Melekeok contains several historical sites, including ancient stone pathways and traditional meeting houses, which reflect Palau's rich cultural heritage.
