About Abuja
Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria since 1991, represents one of Africa's most significant planned cities. Located in the geographical center of Nigeria, it was built primarily during the 1980s to replace Lagos as the country's capital. The city's population has grown rapidly to over 3.6 million inhabitants.
Designed by international planning consortium Kenzo Tange and Urtec, Abuja features a masterplan divided into distinct districts. The Central Business District houses key government buildings, including the distinctive Nigerian National Assembly complex and the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
The city's modern infrastructure includes the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and an efficient road network. Abuja's elevation at around 840 meters above sea level provides it with a more moderate climate compared to other Nigerian cities. The city has become a hub for international conferences and events, featuring modern hotels and the International Conference Centre.
