About Chișinău
Chisinau, the capital and largest city of Moldova, is located in the central part of the country. The city stands on seven hills and stretches along the Bîc River, a right tributary of the Dniester. It is the political, economic and cultural center of the country. The first mention of the city dates back to 1436.
There are several notable sights in the city, including: National Museum of Art, Stefan the Great Central Park, Stefan the Great Monument, National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, Valea Morilor, Dendrariu Park.
The National Museum of History of Moldova has a large collection of about 300 thousand objects of historical value, while the National Museum of Art has permanent exhibitions of Russian, European and Oriental fine arts. The Stefan the Great Central Park, a large green area in the very center of the city, is a popular recreation spot for residents and visitors.
Chisinau's infrastructure includes a network of public transportation: buses, trolleybuses, and shuttle buses. There is no metro and streetcar network in the city, Chisinau is one of the largest European cities that does not have urban rail transportation. The city's economy is based on such sectors as manufacturing, services and trade, which contributes to its role as a key economic center of Moldova.
