About Tokyo International Airport
Tokyo International Airport, commonly known as Haneda Airport, is one of two primary airports serving the Greater Tokyo Area in Japan. Located in Ōta, Tokyo, approximately 14 kilometers south of Tokyo Station, Haneda is situated on reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay. The airport operates under the IATA code HND and ICAO code RJTT.
Haneda Airport features four runways and three passenger terminals. Terminal 1 serves domestic flights operated by Japan Airlines and Skymark Airlines, while Terminal 2 handles domestic flights for All Nippon Airways and other carriers. Terminal 3, also known as the International Terminal, opened in 2010 to accommodate the airport's expansion into international services. The airport's runway system includes two parallel runways (16R/34L and 16L/34R) and two crossing runways (04/22 and 05/23).
The airport handled approximately 87 million passengers in 2019, making it one of the busiest airports in Asia and the world. Haneda primarily focuses on domestic routes within Japan but has significantly expanded its international operations since 2010, particularly for flights to Asian destinations and select long-haul routes to North America and Europe.
Transportation connections include the Tokyo Monorail linking to JR Yamanote Line at Hamamatsuchō Station, and Keikyu Airport Line providing direct access to central Tokyo and Yokohama. The airport operates 24 hours daily, though international flights are restricted during certain nighttime hours. Haneda Airport is managed by Tokyo International Air Terminal Corporation and serves as a major hub for Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways.
