About Ōta
Ōta is one of Tokyo's 23 special wards, notable for containing Haneda Airport, one of Japan's busiest domestic airports and a major international gateway. The ward encompasses diverse neighborhoods ranging from residential areas to industrial zones. Kamata serves as a major commercial center within the ward, featuring shopping districts and entertainment facilities.
The area includes several significant cultural sites, such as Ikegami Honmonji Temple, the head temple of the Nichiren sect of Buddhism where the religion's founder died in 1282. Ota Market functions as one of Tokyo's major wholesale markets, handling fresh produce and flowers. The ward features numerous public bath houses and traditional sento facilities.
Heiwajima Park provides recreational space and hosts various events throughout the year. The ward's industrial heritage includes manufacturing facilities and warehouses. Tama River forms the southern boundary, offering riverside parks and cycling paths. The area's proximity to Haneda Airport makes it strategically important for Tokyo's transportation infrastructure and economic development.
