About Nihombashi

Nihombashi represents Tokyo's historical commercial heart and the symbolic center of Japan's road network. The district takes its name from the Nihombashi Bridge, which served as the starting point for the five major roads during the Edo period. The current bridge, completed in 1911, remains a significant landmark despite being overshadowed by elevated highways.

The area houses the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Japan's primary securities exchange and one of the world's largest stock markets. Bank of Japan headquarters, designed in neoclassical style, serves as the nation's central bank. The district features numerous traditional businesses, including Takashimaya department store and Coredo shopping complexes.

Kite Museum displays traditional Japanese kites and international examples. The area maintains its role as a financial center while preserving historical significance. Nihombashi Fish Market historically served as Tokyo's main fish market before relocating to Tsukiji, then Toyosu, leaving behind a legacy of culinary establishments and traditional food culture.
