About Raroia
Raroia is a historic atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, covering 359 km2 (139 sq mi) of lagoon area. The atoll gained international fame in 1947 as the landing site of Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki expedition. Today, its population of approximately 350 inhabitants focuses on pearl farming and copra production. The atoll features exceptional marine biodiversity and several ancient marae sites.
