About Fatu Hiva
Fatu Hiva is the southernmost and most remote island of the Marquesas Islands, covering an area of 85 km2 (33 sq mi). The island is famous for its dramatic landscape featuring towering cliffs, deep valleys, and the spectacular Bay of Virgins (Baie des Vierges), considered one of the most beautiful bays in the Pacific.
The island's population of approximately 600 inhabitants maintains strong traditional crafts, particularly the creation of tapa cloth and unique wooden carvings. The island's isolation has helped preserve both its natural environment and cultural practices. Fatu Hiva lacks an airport, making it accessible only by boat, which has limited tourism development but preserved its authentic character.
