About Taravai

Taravai is the second-largest island of the Gambier Islands, covering 5.7 km2 (2.2 sq mi). The island features several historic Catholic church ruins from the 19th century missionary period. Despite its size, it maintains a very small permanent population of fewer than 50 people, who primarily engage in subsistence farming and fishing.
