About Portes du Soleil

Portes du Soleil is a major international ski area located in the Alps, straddling the border between France and Switzerland. The resort encompasses twelve interconnected villages and ski areas, making it one of the largest ski domains in the world with approximately 650 kilometers of marked pistes.

The area ranges in elevation from 900 to 2,466 meters and is served by over 190 ski lifts. On the French side, the main resorts include Morzine, Avoriaz, Châtel, Les Gets, Montriond, Saint-Jean-d'Aulps, and Abondance. The Swiss side features Champéry, Les Crosets, Champoussin, Morgins, and Torgon.

Avoriaz, built in the 1960s, is a purpose-built car-free resort situated at 1,800 meters altitude and is known for its distinctive architecture. The resort is particularly famous for hosting international events and competitions. Morzine serves as one of the main gateway towns, offering traditional Alpine village charm with year-round accessibility.

The area is located in the Chablais region, with the French resorts situated in the Haute-Savoie department and the Swiss resorts in the canton of Valais. The ski area operates primarily during winter months, typically from December through April, though summer activities are also available in several villages. The region is accessible via Geneva International Airport, located approximately 90 kilometers away.
