About La Plagne
La Plagne is a major ski resort located in the Tarentaise Valley in the French Alps, within the Savoie department. The resort was developed starting in 1961 and consists of eleven separate villages situated at altitudes ranging from 1,250 to 2,100 meters (4,101 to 6,890 feet). La Plagne is part of the larger Paradiski ski area, which connects to Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express, a double-decker cable car that opened in 2003.
The resort offers 225 kilometers (140 miles) of marked ski runs and is served by 134 ski lifts. The terrain caters to all skill levels, with runs distributed across green, blue, red, and black classifications. La Plagne hosted bobsleigh, luge, and some ski events during the 1992 Winter Olympics held in Albertville. The Olympic Bobsleigh Track remains operational and is open to the public for tourist runs.
The highest point accessible by lift is Glacier de la Chiaupe at 3,250 meters (10,663 feet). The resort maintains year-round glacier skiing on limited terrain during summer months. La Plagne's villages include Plagne Centre, Plagne Villages, Belle Plagne, and Plagne 1800, each offering different architectural styles and amenities.
