About Flaine
Flaine is a ski resort located in the Haute-Savoie department of the French Alps at an elevation of approximately 5,250 feet (1,600 meters). Founded in 1969, the resort was designed by Hungarian-American architect Marcel Breuer and is notable for its brutalist architectural style featuring concrete buildings integrated into the mountain landscape.
The resort is part of the Grand Massif ski area, which is one of the largest ski domains in France, offering access to 165 miles (265 kilometers) of marked ski runs. Flaine's car-free village center provides direct ski-in/ski-out access.
Flaine is distinguished by its collection of public art, including works by prominent 20th-century artists. The resort features sculptures by Pablo Picasso, including La Tête de Femme, as well as pieces by Victor Vasarely and Jean Dubuffet. The Picasso Pavilion houses additional artworks donated by the artist's family.
The resort's high altitude and north-facing slopes contribute to reliable snow conditions throughout the winter season. Flaine offers terrain suitable for various skill levels, from beginner areas to challenging off-piste routes.
