Saskatchewan's bus transportation system has undergone significant changes in recent years. The province's public transportation network primarily consists of intercity bus routes and urban transit systems in major cities. Rider Express is currently the main intercity bus service provider, connecting communities across the province and offering routes to neighboring provinces.

Until 2017, the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) was the provincial crown corporation that provided bus service to 275 communities throughout Saskatchewan for over 70 years. Following its closure, private operators stepped in to fill transportation gaps, though rural areas have experienced reduced service. Studies show that about 60% of STC users were women and 70% were low-income individuals, highlighting the importance of accessible public transportation for vulnerable populations.

In urban centers, city-operated transit systems provide local bus service. Saskatoon Transit offers numerous routes throughout the city, with recent improvements including increased frequency on popular routes and specialized services for high school students. Regina Transit operates over 20 routes connecting neighborhoods to downtown, shopping centers, and educational institutions. Both cities offer real-time bus tracking through mobile applications, making navigation easier for riders.

The cost of bus tickets varies by route and provider. Intercity travel with Rider Express ranges from approximately $18 for short trips (like Saskatoon to Hanley) to over $200 for longer journeys (such as Saskatoon to Vancouver). Major intercity routes include Saskatoon-Regina, Saskatoon-Edmonton, and Regina-Winnipeg, with multiple departures daily on the busiest corridors.

Despite challenges in rural connectivity, Saskatchewan's bus network remains an essential service for those without personal vehicles. The province's vast geography—with more than 160,000 km of roads—makes maintaining comprehensive public transportation a continuous challenge, especially during harsh winter conditions that characterize this prairie province.
