The island covers roughly 2,200 acres and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the south, Bohicket Creek to the north, and the North Edisto River to the west. It lies adjacent to Kiawah Island.
The Town of Seabrook Island was incorporated in 1987. The permanent population of the island remains small, as the majority of properties are used as vacation or second homes.
Seabrook Island features two championship golf courses — Crooked Oaks and Ocean Winds — as well as equestrian facilities, tennis courts, and a private beach club with access to approximately 3 miles of Atlantic shoreline. Residential development on the island began in the 1970s.
The island is home to diverse coastal wildlife, including loggerhead sea turtles, which nest on its beaches seasonally.
