About Wildwood Crest

Wildwood Crest is a borough situated in Cape May County, New Jersey, United States. Located on a barrier island along the Atlantic Ocean, it is part of The Wildwoods, a group of shore communities that includes North Wildwood and Wildwood. The borough was incorporated on April 6, 1910, from portions of Lower Township. According to the 2023, the year-round population was 3,063.

The community is renowned for its pristine beaches, which are free to access and notably wider than many other New Jersey beach towns. The borough's beachfront stretches approximately 1.5 miles and is consistently ranked among the best beaches in New Jersey. Wildwood Crest is particularly famous for its collection of mid-century modern architecture, especially its motels built during the 1950s and 1960s, known as "Doo Wop" architecture. Notable examples include the Caribbean Motel, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The borough features several recreational facilities, including Centennial Park, which offers tennis courts, basketball courts, and a children's playground. The Wildwood Crest Bike Path extends for approximately 2.5 miles along Seaview Avenue, providing cyclists and pedestrians with scenic views of the ocean. The Sunset Lake area on the bay side offers opportunities for fishing, crabbing, and water sports, while also providing spectacular sunset views.

Unlike its northern neighbors, Wildwood Crest maintains a more family-oriented, quieter atmosphere. The borough has strict ordinances prohibiting bars and nightclubs, making it distinctly different from the more commercial areas of the Wildwoods. The community experiences significant seasonal population fluctuations, with summer months bringing the population to approximately 25,000 through vacation rentals and summer homes. The median household income, according to recent estimates, is higher than the state average, reflecting its status as a relatively affluent coastal community.
