About Washington State University Vancouver
Washington State University Vancouver (WSU Vancouver) is a four-year public university campus located in Vancouver, Washington. Established in 1989, the campus serves as the southwest Washington extension of Washington State University's statewide system.
The 351-acre campus is situated in the Salmon Creek area of north Vancouver, sharing facilities with Clark College. Initial enrollment in 1989 included approximately 300 students in upper-division and graduate programs. Current enrollment exceeds 3,400 students. The campus originally focused on junior and senior-level coursework but expanded to offer freshman and sophomore classes beginning in 2006.
WSU Vancouver offers more than 40 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Academic colleges include the College of Arts and Sciences, Carson College of Business, College of Education, Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, and College of Nursing. Notable programs include mechanical engineering, computer science, biology, psychology, business administration, and education. The campus emphasizes research with particular strengths in environmental science, neuroscience, and community health.
Campus facilities include academic buildings, library, student recreation center, and residence halls opened in 2017. The campus maintains partnerships with regional employers and institutions. Faculty conduct research funded through grants from federal agencies and private foundations. The university contributes to workforce development and economic growth in southwest Washington. Athletic teams compete as the Washington State Cougars in NCAA Division I as part of the Pac-12 Conference, though most varsity sports are based at the Pullman campus.
