About Downtown Vancouver

Downtown Vancouver is the central business district of Vancouver, Washington, located along the north bank of the Columbia River. The area is bounded roughly by Interstate 5 to the east, the Columbia River to the south, and extends westward to approximately Garrison Way.

The downtown core features a mix of commercial, residential, and civic buildings. The waterfront district has undergone significant redevelopment since the early 2000s, transforming former industrial areas into mixed-use developments with parks, restaurants, and residential buildings. The Vancouver Waterfront project, one of the largest urban redevelopment efforts in the Pacific Northwest, includes the waterfront renaissance trail, public plazas, and new residential towers.

Esther Short Park, established in 1853, is the oldest public square in Washington State and serves as a central gathering place. Notable downtown buildings include the historic Slocum House (1867), Clark County Historical Museum, and Kiggins Theatre (1936). Main Street and Evergreen Boulevard form primary commercial corridors.

The downtown area hosts numerous events including the Vancouver Farmers Market, which operates from March through October. Transportation infrastructure includes C-Tran's main transit center and access to Interstate 5 and Interstate 205.
