About Two Harbors
State: California.
County: Los Angeles.
Population: ~ 100.
Two Harbors is a small unincorporated community located on the isthmus of Santa Catalina Island, Los Angeles County, California, United States.
The settlement sits at the narrowest point of the island, where the landmass is approximately 0.5 miles (800 m) wide. The name refers to the two bays situated on opposite sides of this isthmus: Isthmus Cove on the north side, facing the San Pedro Channel, and Catalina Harbor on the south side. Catalina Harbor is widely regarded as one of the finest natural harbors on the entire Pacific Coast of North America.
The permanent population of Two Harbors is fewer than 100 residents.
The community offers basic amenities including a general store, a restaurant, a dive shop, and camping facilities managed by the Catalina Island Conservancy, which owns approximately 88% of the island. Access is provided by ferry service from the mainland ports of San Pedro and Long Beach, as well as by private boat. The area is a popular destination for recreational boating, kayaking, snorkeling, and hiking.
Historically, the isthmus served as a filming location for numerous Hollywood productions throughout the 20th century. During World War II, the United States military used Santa Catalina Island, including the Two Harbors area, for training purposes.
