Wineries in Tri-Cities

The Tri-Cities region is central to Washington State's wine industry, serving as the hub for the Columbia Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA). The area's climate and geography create ideal conditions for grape cultivation, with hot, dry summers, cold winters, and long daylight hours during the growing season.

Over 300 wineries operate in the greater Columbia Valley region, with numerous tasting rooms located in the Tri-Cities, particularly in the Red Mountain AVA near Benton City and along the Yakima River corridor. Red Mountain, one of Washington's smallest but most prestigious AVAs, is located west of Richland and is known for producing high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals. The region's volcanic soils and warm climate contribute to concentrated flavors and balanced acidity in the wines.

Major varieties grown in the region include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Riesling. The industry has experienced rapid growth since the 1980s, with Washington becoming the second-largest wine-producing state in the United States. Wine tourism has become economically significant, with numerous tasting rooms, wine tours, and events attracting visitors to the region. The annual Red Wine and Chocolate event and Tri-Cities Wine Festival are major draws for wine enthusiasts.
