About Portsmouth NH
Portsmouth is located in southeastern New Hampshire on the banks of the Piscataqua River on the border with the State of Maine. The city is an important historical and economic center in the northeastern United States. Founded in 1623, Portsmouth is one of the oldest cities in the country. The city's architecture reflects its colonial heritage. The city has preserved many buildings and landmarks, such as the Strawbery Banke Museum, which showcases life from the 17th through the 20th centuries.
Portsmouth's strategic location near the Atlantic Ocean contributed to its development as a prominent port and shipbuilding center. The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, established in 1800, continues to play a vital role in the maintenance and modernization of U.S. Navy submarines.
The local economy is rich in a variety of industries including tourism, health care, and technology. Pease International Trade Port, a former Air Force base, has developed into a thriving business and aviation center that attracts companies and promotes economic growth. Portsmouth Regional Hospital and various technology companies contribute to the city's economic stability and employment opportunities.
Portsmouth has an abundance of cultural and recreational activities. The historic Music Hall Theater hosts a variety of performances, and Prescott Park hosts outdoor concerts and festivals. The city's waterfront offers scenic views and a lively atmosphere with many restaurants specializing in seafood and local produce.
