About Philadelphia International Airport

Philadelphia International Airport (IATA: PHL, ICAO: KPHL) is the primary airport serving Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is located about 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Center City Philadelphia and straddles the boundary between Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

It is the largest airport in the state of Pennsylvania and serves as a major hub for American Airlines.

The airport was established as a municipal airfield in 1925 and began scheduled commercial airline service in 1940. Over the following decades it expanded through the construction of additional terminals and runways to accommodate growing domestic and international traffic. Today the airport operates four runways and several passenger terminals connected by a central corridor, offering both domestic flights across the United States and international service to destinations in Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

PHL is a significant economic engine for the greater Philadelphia region, supporting employment and serving millions of passengers annually. It is connected to the city by the SEPTA Airport Regional Rail line, as well as by highways and ground transportation services.
