About Paso Robles

Paso Robles, officially known as El Paso de Robles, is a city located in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The city sits in the Salinas Valley region of the Central Coast, approximately 25 miles north of San Luis Obispo and 230 miles northwest of Los Angeles. As of the 2020 census, Paso Robles had a population of 31,490 residents.

The area was originally inhabited by the Salinan Native American tribe before Spanish colonization. The city's name, meaning "Pass of the Oaks" in Spanish, refers to the oak trees that historically covered the region. Paso Robles was officially incorporated as a city in 1889.

The city is renowned for its wine industry, with the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area (AVA) established in 1983. The region contains over 200 wineries and 40,000 acres of vineyards, making it one of California's fastest-growing wine regions. The area is particularly known for producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Rhône varietals, benefiting from the region's Mediterranean climate and diverse soil types.
