About Nashville International Airport
Nashville International Airport (IATA: BNA, ICAO: KBNA, FAA LID: BNA) is a public-use airport located eight miles southeast of downtown Nashville, Tennessee. The airport serves as the primary aviation gateway for the Nashville metropolitan area and Middle Tennessee region.
Originally constructed in 1937 as Berry Field, the facility was renamed Nashville Metropolitan Airport in 1963 and received its current designation in 1988. The airport occupies approximately 4,555 acres and features four runways, with the longest measuring 11,030 feet. BNA operates as a hub for Southwest Airlines and serves as a focus city for several major carriers.
The airport's main terminal underwent significant expansion and renovation, completed in 2009, adding Concourse D and enhancing passenger amenities. The facility now contains 44 gates across four concourses (A, B, C, and D). Notable features include extensive local music displays, reflecting Nashville's reputation as "Music City," and numerous dining and retail options showcasing Tennessee culture.
BNA consistently ranks among the fastest-growing airports in the United States, handling over 18 million passengers annually as of recent years. The airport provides nonstop service to more than 90 destinations across the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe. Major airlines operating at BNA include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines.
The Nashville International Airport Authority, established in 1970, owns and operates the facility. Recent infrastructure improvements include runway reconstructions, terminal enhancements, and expanded parking facilities to accommodate continued passenger growth.
