Mount Vernon is a city in and the county seat of Skagit County, Washington, United States. Located approximately 60 miles north of Seattle, the city had a population of 35,219 as of the 2020 census.

The city is situated in the Skagit River Valley, one of the most productive agricultural regions in Washington state. Mount Vernon was officially incorporated in 1893. The Skagit River flows through the city, and the area is known for its fertile floodplain soils that support extensive farming operations.

Agriculture plays a central role in the local economy, with the Skagit Valley producing significant quantities of vegetables, berries, and flower bulbs. The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, held annually in April, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to view tulip and daffodil fields in bloom. The city also serves as a retail and service center for the surrounding agricultural communities.

Mount Vernon covers approximately 12.6 square miles. The city features a historic downtown district and provides access to recreational areas including the Cascade Mountains to the east and Puget Sound to the west.
