About Terminal D

Terminal D is one of five terminals at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), serving as the primary hub for American Airlines and its regional partners. Opened in 1974 as part of the airport's original construction, Terminal D underwent major renovations and expansions between 2003 and 2005, transforming it into a modern aviation facility.

The terminal spans approximately 1.5 million square feet and features 58 gates distributed across two levels. Terminal D handles both domestic and international flights, with dedicated areas for customs and immigration processing. The facility includes four satellite buildings connected by the Skylink automated people mover system, which provides transportation between terminals and parking areas.

As American Airlines' largest hub, Terminal D processes over 20 million passengers annually. The terminal houses American's Admirals Club lounges, including the flagship Admirals Club on the upper level. Dining options include both local Dallas-area restaurants and national chains, while retail spaces offer travel essentials, electronics, and Texas-themed merchandise.

Terminal D connects to the airport's multimodal transportation hub via the Terminal Link train system. Ground transportation options include the DFW Airport Board's rental car facility, hotel shuttles, and the Trinity Metro TEXRail service to downtown Fort Worth.

Recent infrastructure improvements include enhanced security checkpoints, expanded gate areas, and upgraded passenger amenities. The terminal maintains LEED certification standards and incorporates energy-efficient technologies throughout its operations, reflecting DFW's commitment to environmental sustainability.
