About John Glenn Columbus International Airport

John Glenn Columbus International Airport (IATA: CMH, ICAO: KCMH, FAA LID: CMH) is an international airport serving Columbus, Ohio, United States. It lies in the northeastern part of the city, about six miles (ten kilometres) east of downtown Columbus, and is owned and operated by the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.

The field opened in 1929 as Port Columbus and is among the oldest continuously operating commercial airports in the United States.

Columbus was a scheduled stop on the first transcontinental air-and-rail passenger service, introduced by Transcontinental Air Transport in 1929, and the airport later handled military traffic during the Second World War. Its main terminal was completed in the late 1950s and was enlarged over the following decades as traffic grew, with additional concourses, parking structures and a reworked roadway system added in stages. The same authority also operates Rickenbacker International Airport, a cargo-focused field, and Bolton Field.

In 2016 the airport was renamed in honor of John Glenn, the Ohio-born aviator, astronaut and United States senator who in 1962 became the first American to orbit the Earth.

It has two parallel east–west runways and a passenger terminal divided into three concourses, labeled A, B and C.

It is one of the two busiest airports in Ohio, alongside Cleveland Hopkins.

Southwest Airlines is the largest carrier at the airport. Nonstop service reaches more than thirty destinations, almost all of them within the United States, with limited international flights to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

The site sits at an elevation of 815 feet (248 m) above sea level and is connected to downtown Columbus by Interstate 670.
