Description:
This map shows national parks in Tanzania.

Tanzania is home to 22 national parks, making it one of Africa's premier wildlife destinations. The country's protected areas cover approximately 38% of its total land area, showcasing diverse ecosystems from savannas to rainforests.

The Serengeti National Park, established in 1951, is the most famous among Tanzania's parks. Covering 14,763 square kilometers, it hosts the annual wildebeest migration and is home to over 1.5 million wildebeest, 250,000 zebras, and numerous predators including lions, leopards, and cheetahs. The park was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.

Mount Kilimanjaro National Park protects Africa's highest peak and the world's highest free-standing mountain. Ngorongoro Conservation Area features the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and maintains a unique ecosystem where Maasai people coexist with wildlife. Gombe National Park, made famous by Jane Goodall's research, is one of the best places to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat.

Tanzania's marine parks, including Mafia Island Marine Park, protect extensive coral reefs and serve as critical habitats for marine species, including whale sharks and sea turtles.
