Sweden is a Nordic country located in Northern Europe, occupying the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The country covers an area of 173,860 square miles (450,295 square kilometers), making it the third-largest country in the European Union by area.

The Swedish landscape is characterized by diverse geographical features. The northern region is dominated by the Scandinavian Mountains, known as Skanderna or Kölen, which form a natural border with Norway. The highest peak in Sweden is Kebnekaise, reaching 6,926 feet (2,111 meters) above sea level.

Central Sweden consists of lowlands and is home to thousands of lakes, with Lake Vänern being the largest. The region also features dense forests, particularly in the provinces of Dalarna and Värmland. The southern part of the country is predominantly agricultural, with fertile plains in Skåne and rolling hills throughout Småland.

Sweden's coastline stretches approximately 2,000 miles (3,218 kilometers) along the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia. The country includes approximately 267,570 islands, with Gotland and Öland being the largest. Rivers are abundant throughout the country, with the longest being the Klarälven-Göta älv, stretching 447 miles (720 kilometers).
