Stockholm Arlanda Airport is Sweden's largest and busiest international airport, serving the Stockholm metropolitan area. Located in Sigtuna Municipality, approximately 23 miles north of central Stockholm, it handles over 26 million passengers annually, making it the third-busiest airport in the Nordic countries after Copenhagen and Oslo.

The airport features four terminals: Terminal 2 and Terminal 5 handle international flights, while Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 serve domestic routes. The facility operates three runways, with the longest measuring 10,827 feet, allowing it to accommodate all types of aircraft, including large wide-body planes.

Arlanda opened for service in 1962, replacing Bromma Airport as Stockholm's primary international gateway. The name "Arlanda" was selected through a public contest, combining "Arland" (an old name for the parish where the airport is located) with the Swedish word "landa" meaning "to land."

The airport is a major hub for Scandinavian Airlines and serves as a focus city for Norwegian Air Shuttle and Ryanair. It provides direct connections to over 180 destinations worldwide and employs approximately 17,000 people across various services. The airport is connected to Stockholm city center via the Arlanda Express high-speed train, which completes the journey in 20 minutes, as well as regular bus and taxi services.

In terms of sustainability, Arlanda was one of the first airports globally to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations. The facility utilizes various eco-friendly technologies, including Sweden's largest aquifer thermal energy storage system for heating and cooling the terminals.
