About Lund
Lund is a historic city located in the southern Swedish province of Scania. With a population of approximately 95,000 residents, it is considered one of Sweden's oldest cities, founded around 990 AD during the Viking Age.
The city is primarily known as a major educational center, home to Lund University, established in 1666. It is Scandinavia's largest institution for education and research, with over 40,000 students and 7,000 staff members. The university's main building and its historical library are significant architectural landmarks in the city center.
The most prominent historical monument in Lund is the Lund Cathedral (Lunds domkyrka), built in the Romanesque style and consecrated in 1145. The city's medieval street layout remains largely intact in the central district, featuring cobblestone streets and old merchants' houses that reflect its rich historical heritage.
