Description:
This map shows landforms in Eswatini (Swaziland).
Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, bordered by South Africa to the north, west, and south, and by Mozambique to the east. The country covers an area of 6,704 square miles (17,364 square kilometers).
The terrain of Eswatini is characterized by four distinct geographical regions running from north to south. The western region consists of the Highveld, featuring mountains reaching heights of 4,500-6,500 feet (1,370-1,980 meters). The country's highest point is Emlembe, standing at 6,109 feet (1,862 meters) above sea level.
The central region is known as the Middleveld, with an average elevation of 2,000-2,500 feet (610-760 meters), characterized by rolling hills and fertile valleys. East of this lies the Lowveld, a flat bush country at 500-1,000 feet (150-300 meters) above sea level. The eastern border region features the Lubombo Mountains, a narrow but prominent escarpment rising approximately 2,000 feet (600 meters) above the Lowveld plains.
Major rivers include the Komati, Lusutfu, and Umbuluzi, which flow eastward through the country. These rivers have carved significant valleys and provide essential water resources for agriculture and hydroelectric power generation.
