Historically significant, Blaauwberg was the site of the 1806 Battle of Blaauwberg, which led to the British taking control of the Cape Colony from the Dutch. Today, the Battle of Blaauwberg Site is preserved as a heritage location. The area has experienced significant development in recent decades, transforming from a small fishing village into a major residential and commercial district.
