Slovakia Physical Map

Description:
This map shows landforms in Slovakia.

Slovakia's physical geography is dominated by the Carpathian Mountains, which cover approximately two-thirds of the country's territory. The highest peak in Slovakia is Gerlachovský štít, reaching 2,655 meters (8,711 feet) above sea level, located in the High Tatras range.

The southern regions of Slovakia consist of lowlands, primarily the Danubian Lowland (Podunajská nížina) in the southwest and the East Slovak Lowland (Východoslovenská nížina) in the southeast. The Danube River forms part of Slovakia's southern border with Hungary and is crucial for transportation and agriculture.

The country's central region features several prominent mountain ranges, including the Low Tatras, Lesser Fatra, and Greater Fatra. These mountains are characterized by dense forests, limestone formations, and numerous caves. The Slovak Karst region contains over 1,300 caves, with several designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Major rivers include the Váh, Hron, and Hornád, all flowing southward through the mountainous terrain. The landscape includes numerous natural lakes, particularly in the High Tatras, formed by glacial activity during the last ice age.
