About Warsaw Chopin Airport

Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) is Poland's largest and busiest international airport, located approximately 5.3 miles southwest of Warsaw's city center. Named after the famous Polish composer Frédéric Chopin in 2001, the airport serves as the primary hub for LOT Polish Airlines and handles over 18 million passengers annually. The facility operates 24/7 and features two intersecting runways: the longer one measuring 12,106 feet and the shorter one at 9,843 feet.

The airport consists of two main terminals: Terminal A, which handles all passenger traffic, and Terminal 2, dedicated to cargo operations. Terminal A is divided into five zones (A, B, C, D, and E) and features 45 jet bridges, numerous shops, restaurants, lounges, and currency exchange facilities. The terminal complex underwent significant modernization in preparation for the UEFA Euro 2012 football championship, including the addition of a railway station connecting the airport to Warsaw's city center.

Transportation options to and from the airport include dedicated rail service, with trains running every 15 minutes during peak hours, multiple bus lines, taxi services, and car rentals. The journey to central Warsaw takes approximately 20 minutes by train or 30-40 minutes by car, depending on traffic conditions.

The airport serves as a major gateway to Poland and Eastern Europe, offering connections to over 150 destinations worldwide. It handles flights from numerous international carriers and serves as an important cargo hub. Recent developments include the implementation of modern security systems, self-service check-in kiosks, and automated border control gates. The facility has received multiple awards for its service quality and continues to expand its capabilities to meet growing passenger demands.
