About Szczecin
Szczecin is a major seaport city in northwestern Poland and the capital of West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Located near the Baltic Sea and the German border, it is Poland's seventh-largest city with a population of approximately 387,000 residents. The city serves as an important economic, cultural, and educational center of the Pomeranian region.

The city's history dates back to the 8th century when it was founded as a Slavic settlement. Throughout its history, Szczecin has been under various political controls, including Polish, Danish, Swedish, Prussian, and German rule. After World War II, in 1945, it became part of Poland. The city suffered significant damage during the war, but many historical buildings were carefully reconstructed in the following decades.

Among the city's most notable landmarks is the Ducal Castle, a Renaissance-style structure that serves as a cultural center and houses several museums. The Wały Chrobrego (Chrobry Embankment) is a prominent architectural ensemble featuring the National Museum, Maritime University, and the Contemporary Theater. The city's Old Town includes the Gothic Town Hall and numerous historic churches, including the Cathedral Basilica of St. James the Apostle, which is the largest church in Pomerania.
Szczecin's economy is largely based on its seaport operations, shipbuilding industry, and service sector. The Port of Szczecin-Świnoujście is one of the largest port complexes in the Baltic Sea region. The city is also home to several higher education institutions, including the University of Szczecin and the West Pomeranian University of Technology.
The city's unique urban layout, known as the "Szczecin Star," features wide radial streets converging at large squares and roundabouts, inspired by Paris's urban design. Szczecin is also known for its extensive green spaces, including Jasne Błonia square and Kasprowicz Park. The city's location at the confluence of the Oder River and Lake Dąbie provides numerous recreational opportunities and scenic waterfront areas.
Modern Szczecin has emerged as an important cultural hub, hosting various international events such as the Tall Ships Races and the KONTRAPUNKT Theatre Festival. The city continues to develop its infrastructure and attract international investment while preserving its historical heritage and maritime traditions.
