About Lublin

Lublin is a major city in eastern Poland, serving as the capital and largest city of Lublin Voivodeship. Located approximately 170 kilometers southeast of Warsaw, it is the ninth-largest city in Poland with a population of around 328,000 residents. The city's history dates back to the 6th century, though it received its city rights in 1317.

During the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth period, Lublin played a significant role as a royal city and administrative center. The signing of the Union of Lublin in 1569, which created the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, took place in the city. In the interwar period, Lublin briefly served as the temporary capital of Poland in 1944, hosting the Polish Committee of National Liberation.

The city is home to several significant educational institutions, including Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, and Lublin University of Technology. These institutions contribute to Lublin's status as a major academic center, with approximately 65,000 students annually.
