Cities of Poland

Poland's cities represent a diverse mix of historical heritage and modern development. The largest city and capital, Warsaw, has a population of 1.8 million people and serves as the country's economic and cultural center. Despite extensive destruction during World War II, its Old Town was meticulously reconstructed and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Kraków, the former capital and second-largest city, maintains its medieval layout and is famous for having the largest medieval town square in Europe. The city's Wawel Castle complex attracts over 2 million visitors annually.

The northern port city of Gdańsk, together with Gdynia and Sopot, forms the Tri-City metropolitan area. Gdańsk's historic shipyards gained worldwide recognition as the birthplace of the Solidarity movement in 1980. The coastal region handles about 90% of Poland's maritime trade.

Wrocław, located in western Poland, features 12 islands connected by over 100 bridges. Poznań, an important trade center since medieval times, hosts the largest trade fair in Central Europe. Łódź, once a major textile manufacturing hub, has transformed into a cultural center with numerous film and art institutions.
