Agadir is a major city located on Morocco's southern Atlantic coast, approximately 508 kilometers southwest of Casablanca. It serves as the capital of the Souss-Massa region and is one of Morocco's most important fishing ports and tourist destinations. The city has a population of approximately 538,000 inhabitants as of 2023.

The modern city was almost completely rebuilt following a devastating earthquake in 1960 that destroyed about 80% of the city and killed more than 15,000 people. Today, Agadir is known for its modern urban planning, wide palm-lined boulevards, and contemporary architecture. The city experiences a semi-arid climate with mild temperatures throughout the year, making it a popular year-round tourist destination.

Among the city's main attractions is the Agadir Beach, a 6-kilometer stretch of golden sand that curves along the Atlantic Ocean. The Kasbah of Agadir Oufella, situated on a hill overlooking the city, is one of the few historic structures that partially survived the 1960 earthquake. While only the outer walls remain, it offers panoramic views of the city and bay. The Souk El Had, one of Morocco's largest traditional markets, features over 6,000 small shops and attracts both locals and tourists.

Agadir's economy is primarily based on tourism, fishing, and agriculture. The city's port is one of the largest sardine ports in the world and a major handler of agricultural exports. The surrounding Souss Valley is known for its production of citrus fruits, vegetables, and argan oil. The city's international airport, Al Massira Airport, serves numerous European destinations, contributing to its status as a major tourist hub.

The city features several modern facilities including the Valley of Birds, a small zoo and garden, the Museum of Amazigh Heritage showcasing the region's Berber culture, and the Memorial Museum of Agadir, which documents the 1960 earthquake and the city's subsequent reconstruction. The region around Agadir is also known for its golf courses, water sports facilities, and proximity to the Anti-Atlas Mountains, offering visitors various recreational opportunities.
