About Cetinje

Cetinje is a historic city in southwestern Montenegro, situated at the foot of Mount Lovćen. Serving as Montenegro's historic capital from the 15th century until 1918, it currently has a population of approximately 12,500 inhabitants. The city lies at an elevation of 670 meters (2,198 feet) above sea level and is located 12 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea.

The city was founded in 1482 by Ivan Crnojević, when he moved his capital from Žabljak Crnojevića to the foot of Mount Lovćen. During its history, Cetinje developed as a spiritual, cultural, and political center of Montenegro. The city played a crucial role in preserving Montenegrin independence during the Ottoman period and later became the center of Montenegrin resistance against various foreign powers.
