About Loutraki
Loutraki is a seaside resort town in the Corinthia regional unit of the Peloponnese, located on the Gulf of Corinth. The town has a permanent population of approximately 11,000 and is situated 80 kilometers west of Athens. Loutraki developed as a spa town due to its natural thermal springs.
The town's name derives from the Greek word "loutra," meaning "baths," referring to the therapeutic mineral springs that have attracted visitors since ancient times. The Thermal Spa of Loutraki offers hydrotherapy treatments utilizing water rich in minerals including sodium, potassium, and chlorine. The springs maintain a constant temperature of approximately 30-32 degrees Celsius. The water is also bottled and sold commercially as mineral water throughout Greece.
The waterfront promenade stretches for several kilometers along the coastline, lined with hotels, restaurants, and cafes. The Casino Loutraki, one of the largest casinos in Europe, opened in 1995 and operates year-round. The nearby Lake Vouliagmeni, a small lagoon connected to the Corinthian Gulf, is known for its deep blue waters. The Monastery of Saint Patapios, located in the hills above Loutraki, dates to the Byzantine period and contains the relics of the saint. The monastery features frescoes and cave chapels built into the rock face. The ancient site of Heraion of Perachora, located on the peninsula west of Loutraki, contains ruins of a sanctuary dedicated to Hera.
