About Ghana
Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country located in West Africa. It borders Cote d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. The capital and largest city is Accra.
With a population of approximately 35 million people, Ghana is the second-most populous country in West Africa. The official language is English, though numerous indigenous languages are also spoken, including Akan, Ewe, and Ga.
Ghana gained independence from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957, becoming the first sub-Saharan African nation to achieve independence from European colonization. The country is rich in natural resources, including gold, cocoa, and oil. Ghana is the world's second-largest cocoa producer after Côte d'Ivoire.
The country's economy is one of the fastest-growing in Africa. The currency is the Ghanaian cedi. Ghana's political system is a presidential democracy, and it is often referred to as one of Africa's most stable democracies. The country is divided into 16 administrative regions.
Ghana's climate is tropical, characterized by warm temperatures throughout the year and distinct wet and dry seasons. The country's landscape varies from coastal savannas to tropical rainforests. Lake Volta, created by the Akosombo Dam, is the largest artificial lake by surface area in the world.
