About Landshut
Landshut is a city in Bavaria, Germany, located on the Isar River with approximately 72,000 inhabitants. The city served as the residence of the Dukes of Bavaria from 1231 to 1503 and preserves extensive medieval architecture. Landshut is known for the Landshut Wedding (Landshuter Hochzeit), a historical festival reenacting the 1475 marriage of Duke George the Rich to Princess Jadwiga of Poland.
The St. Martin's Church (Martinskirche) possesses the world's tallest brick church tower at 130.6 meters, completed in 1500. The church exemplifies late Gothic architecture with impressive vaulted ceilings and artistic details. Trausnitz Castle, perched on a hill overlooking the city, was built in 1204 and served as the ducal residence. The castle features Renaissance art, including frescoes, and offers panoramic views of Landshut and the Isar valley.
The Old Town (Altstadt) features the widest Gothic street in Germany, lined with colorful historic houses, many with ornate facades. The City Residence (Stadtresidenz), built in 1536-1543, is one of the earliest Renaissance palace buildings in Germany with richly decorated Italian-style interiors.
Landshut University of Applied Sciences offers technical and business programs. The city's economy includes mechanical engineering, automotive suppliers, and traditional brewing. BMW maintains facilities nearby. The Landshut Wedding festival, held every four years, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and involves much of the local population in historical costumes and celebrations.
